Amnesty International is a human-rights
organization, that was established in the
UK in 1961 to campaign for the release of
prisoners of conscience worldwide, fair
trials for all political prisoners, an end to
the death penalty, torture, and other inhuman
treatment of all prisoners, and the cessation
of extrajudicial executions and
"disappearances". It is politically and
economically unaligned. Amnesty International
has over 1.1 million members, and section
offices in 43 countries around the world.
The organization was awarded the Nobel Peace
